Privatizing The Unprofitable

A Company needs profitability. Its financial bottom line is very real; stop making money and it will inevitably cease to exist. A government’s bottom line is with its people. Whether its a democracy or a king’s castle the concept is simple: piss off enough people and your government ceases to exist. Companies answer to profitability, governments answer to people. Say it again if you need to.

You Built It, You Bought It.

You’ve got a sweet tooth, you bought your favourite morsel from the corner store and carried it home. It’s got dried pineapple from South America, macadamias from Madagascar and ted nugent from Michigan…. If we ignore your own physical exertion, what’s your carbon footprint?… Zero! All you did was eat it! In no way did you force someone to refine oil into that wrapper, grow sugarcane or burn gallons of fuel shipping across oceans.

Cycling in Toronto

I bike past a sign on my way home from work that says “traffic must yield to pedestrians”. It’s good to know the city is asking drivers to brake when people are walking in front of their cars. All we need now is for the municipality to educate the public with signs saying: “motorists not allowed to kill cyclists”. (more…)

Biofuels are Bullshit

It’s pretty simple, mankind is already straining our farmland to grow enough food to feed everyone. People are still starving, food costs continue to rise. Mankind is also extremely dependent on fuel. Other than maybe air and water, i can’t think of something humans consume more of than food and fuel. Filling cars with biofuels would basically group our two most demanded commodities onto one production source. Its preposterous. (more…)
